Abstract:
We report the measurement of the inclusive jet cross-section at midrapidity in polarized proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200\,$GeV by the STAR experiment at RHIC based on the anti-kT jet reconstruction algorithm with a cone radius of R=0.6. The measured inclusive jet cross-section in three pseudorapidity regions ($|\eta| < 1$, $0.5 < |\eta| < 1$ and $|\eta|<0.5$) is compared to NLO calculations for three different sets of unpolarized parton distribution functions of CT10, MRST-W and NNPDF. Generally, good agreement is found comparing the measured inclusive jet cross-section to NLO calculations taking into account hadronization and underlying event effects. The inclusive jet cross-section probes unpolarized gluon distribution functions at high-$x$ where uncertainties remain sizeable.

Summary:
In summary, this paper reports the measurment of the inclusive jet cross-section at midrapidity in polarized proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200\,$GeV by the STAR experiment at RHIC based on the anti-kT jet reconstruction algorithm with a cone radius of R=0.6. The measured inclusive jet cross-section in three pseudorapidity regions (|$\eta$| < 1, 0.5 < |$\eta$| < 1 and |$\eta$|<0.5) is compared to NLO calucations for three different sets of unpolarized parton distribution functions of CT10, MRST-W and NNPDF including theoretical scale uncertainities. Generally, good agreement is found comparing the measured inclusive jet cross-section to NLO calculations taking into account hadronization and underlying event effects. The sensitive Bjorken-$x$ range probed at $\sqrt{s}=200\,$GeV in polarized proton-proton collisions amounts to roughly $0.05<x<0.2$. Among all three unpolarized parton distribution functions, a slight preference for the unpoalrized parton distribution function set of CT10 is found. The inclusive jet cross-section probes unpolarized gluon distribution functions at high-$x$ where uncertainties remain sizeable.
