Abstract | : | STAR is a large acceptance multi-purpose spectrometer that detects all charged particles produced in the pseudo-rapidity interval -2 < eta < 2 with a Time Projection Chamber (TPC). A Silicon Vertex Tracker (SVT), located closer to the interaction region, covers the central region (-1 < eta < 1). These detectors allow not only the trajectory of tracks to be reconstructed, but are also able to fix the 4-momentum by also measuring the specific energy loss of each track. Combining the ionization information from these detectors improves the quality and the range over which PID can be done by a single individual detector. A method which combines the ionization measurements from the two detectors, while having little dependence on the relative calibration of the detectors will be introduced and studied with simulated data. |
