First of all, welcome! Here are some suggestions to get you plugged into STAR computing.

• For information on accounts, mail setup etc. visit the RCF pages.

• Visit the STAR HyperNews page. You'll find a list of all computing related lists, descriptions of them, and documentation on the HyperNews sytem. Browse a few weeks or months of postings in the principal lists (STARSOFI, STARSOFT, etc ...).

• Visit the task list page for an idea of current and planned activities. (No substitute for talking to people to learn where activity is and work is needed, though)

• Explore the STAR computing web and the RHIC Computing Facility (RCF) web

• Check out the computing organization page to get an idea of who's who

• Dig into the rest of the tutorials, starting with setting up your environment

• Browse the CVS repository and cross-referenced code browsers to get a feel for the layout of STAR software. Both these tools are key development aids for learning about the software and tracking changes.

• Review the STAR coding standards

• Attend the computing meetings. See the meetings page.
