First of all, welcome! Here are some suggestions to get you plugged into STAR computing.
Visit the STAR HyperNews page. You'll find a list of all computing related lists, descriptions of them, and documentation on the HyperNews sytem. Browse a few weeks or months of postings in the principal lists (STARSOFI, STARSOFT, etc ...).
Visit the task list page for an idea of current and planned activities. (No substitute for talking to people to learn where activity is and work is needed, though)
Explore the STAR computing web and the RHIC Computing Facility (RCF) web
Check out the computing organization page to get an idea of who's who
Browse the CVS repository and cross-referenced code browsers to get a feel for the layout of STAR software. Both these tools are key development aids for learning about the software and tracking changes.
